Film Education Programs in Schools

Abstract

Programs designed to guide participants through the wonders of photography and cinema.

he project developed by Le Moscerine Cultural Association aims to offer an innovative and engaging educational experience through courses and workshops in film education, filmmaking and photography, designed for children and young people of different age groups, from preschool to lower secondary school. The main objective is to stimulate creativity and support the cognitive and emotional development of participants, encouraging greater critical and creative awareness of still and moving images. An integral part of this project is the Moscerine Film Festival, a unique and innovative event that provides a dedicated platform for young filmmakers aged 0 to 12. The festival not only celebrates diversity and creativity in children’s cinema, but also actively encourages children’s participation in the entire decision-making process, from film creation to presentation and awards. Through this initiative, the association seeks to promote awareness of the importance of images and cinema in education and youth development, fostering an educational journey that is both meaningful and engaging.

From nursery school to lower secondary school

Experiential, Cooperative, Play-Based and Project-Based Learning

The educational approach varies significantly according to the students’ age group and school level involved. From nursery school to lower secondary school, the methodology is adapted to the cognitive, emotional and motor development of the students. In the early years, the focus is placed on learning through sensory experience and playful exploration, while in primary and lower secondary schools the approach encourages active learning, critical reflection and the development of creative and communication skills. At each stage, educators adopt targeted teaching methods and strategies designed to meet the specific needs and developmental level of the students.

What will I learn?

The Film Education project, delivered through a series of structured and engaging courses, offers students of different age groups the opportunity to explore the power of photographic and cinematic images in a creative and constructive way. Through a play-based approach, hands-on learning and active participation in the Moscerine Film Festival, the project aims to strengthen not only students’ artistic and storytelling skills, but also to promote critical awareness and visual literacy. With a strong emphasis on inclusivity and individual expression, the project seeks to nurture the talent and creativity of each participant, inspiring a new generation of filmmakers—or simply a more aware and engaged cinema audience for the future.
